Rann of Kutch — White Desert
Package ID: TG-IN-001043
Bhuj · White Rann · Kutch villages — The great white salt desert of Kutch, run from Bhuj out to the Rann at Dhordo and through the craft villages that make this one of the richest folk-textile regions on earth. The trip is deliberately timed for winter and, ideally, the full moon, when the endless white flats glow under moonlight — the sight everyone comes for. We're honest that the White Rann is a seasonal, post-monsoon phenomenon (the flats are underwater the rest of the year) and that the famous Rann Utsav is a set-up tent-city experience, lovely but organised. Beyond it lies a genuine living landscape of embroidery, mud-mirror houses and desert wildlife.

Bhuj, the historic capital of Kutch, is the base and the introduction. The Aina Mahal (Hall of Mirrors) and the Italian-Gothic Prag Mahal survived the 2001 earthquake and tell the story of the Kutchi royal house. A gentle first evening in the old city.

A full day among the craft villages that make Kutch famous — Bhujodi's weavers, Ajrakhpur's natural-dye block printers, and Nirona, home to the world's last practitioners of Rogan painting and the Kutchi copper-bell makers. These are working artisan homes, not showrooms; buying directly supports the craft, and we visit respectfully.

Good to know
Important information
- •The White Rann is seasonal — the salt flats are walkable only in the dry winter (roughly Nov–Feb); they are underwater after the monsoon.
- •Full-moon nights are the most spectacular and book out early; we time your trip to them where your dates allow.
- •A permit is required to visit the border-area flats at Dhordo — we arrange it; carry a government photo ID.
- •The Rann Utsav tent city is an organised set-up experience (comfortable tents, folk shows) — lovely but not "wild" camping; we set honest expectations.
- •Desert days are warm and nights genuinely cold in winter — carry layers.

Questions
Package FAQs
When can we actually see the White Rann?
Only in the dry season, roughly November to February. After the monsoon the flats are flooded and later still muddy. For the glowing white expanse — and especially the full-moon nights — winter is essential, and we time your trip to it.
Is the Rann Utsav worth it?
Yes for the atmosphere — folk music, crafts, camel rides and the tent city on the desert edge — as long as you know it is an organised festival set-up, not solitude. We're upfront about that so it meets your expectations.
Is it good for families?
Very — the crafts, the salt desert, camel and quad rides and the folk evenings all delight children, and drives are short. We pick comfortable stays and keep the pace easy.
Do we need permits?
Yes, for the border-area flats at Dhordo — we arrange the permit and you simply carry photo ID.
