Two for a first visit. South Mumbai is a full day, Elephanta is half a day, and traffic will take more of your time than you expect.
Is the Mumbai monsoon a problem?
It can be. June to September brings genuine flooding and transport disruption. It is atmospheric, but do not plan tight connections in those months.
