Varanasi Spiritual Sojourn
Package ID: TG-IN-001587
Varanasi · Sarnath — Varanasi is not a sightseeing city so much as an experience of one of the oldest continuously lived-in places on earth, and we plan it honestly around that. The two set-pieces — the sunrise boat along the ghats and the evening Ganga aarti at Dashashwamedh — sit at either end of the day; in between are the lanes, the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon. It can be intense and confronting, cremations and all, and we prepare you for that rather than pretend the ghats are a tourist promenade. Short, deep and unforgettable.

Day 1 Arrive VaranasiAirport → Evening aarti
- Private transfer & hotel check-in
- Walk to Dashashwamedh Ghat
- Ganga Aarti — the great fire-and-lamp ceremony at dusk
- Dinner & overnight
The day is timed for the evening. The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh — priests, fire, conch and chant facing the river as night falls — is the definitive Varanasi moment, and we position you for it, ideally from a boat just offshore where the whole ghat is in view. A gentle arrival before an intense, beautiful first evening.
🛏 Overnight: Varanasi
Day 2 Sunrise boat & old cityGhats → Kashi Vishwanath
- Sunrise boat ride along the ghats
- Walk the ghats — the bathing, the rituals, the morning light
- Breakfast
- Kashi Vishwanath Temple & the new corridor (expect queues)
- The old-city lanes — silk weavers & street food
- Free evening or a second aarti
The sunrise boat is the other essential — the ghats waking, pilgrims bathing, the light coming up pink over the river. Afterwards the old city: the Kashi Vishwanath temple and its new corridor (genuinely grand, but security is tight and queues are real, so we set expectations), the tangle of lanes, and Banarasi silk at the source. We're honest that the manikarnika cremation ghat is part of what you'll see, and we guide it respectfully.

- Drive to Sarnath
- Dhamek Stupa & the deer park where the Buddha first taught
- Sarnath Archaeological Museum — the original Ashoka Lion Capital
- Return to Varanasi & leisure
A calmer counterpoint. Sarnath, just outside the city, is where the Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment — the great Dhamek Stupa, the ruins of the monastery, and a museum holding the original Ashoka Lion Capital that became India's national emblem. Quiet, green and historically extraordinary after the intensity of the ghats.

A quiet last morning — or one more sunrise on the river if your flight allows — before the transfer to Varanasi airport. The city tends to stay with people long after they leave.

Good to know
Important information
- •Varanasi is intense — the ghats include working cremation sites, which we guide respectfully. Photography of cremations is not permitted.
- •Kashi Vishwanath has tight security and can involve long queues; special-darshan passes help and we advise on current rules.
- •Dress modestly for temples; shoes and often phones/cameras are left outside inner sanctums.
- •The old-city lanes are narrow, crowded and best explored on foot with a guide — cars cannot enter.
- •October–March is the pleasant window; summers are very hot and the monsoon raises the river over the lower ghats.

Questions
Package FAQs
Is Varanasi suitable for first-time or sensitive travellers?
It is deeply rewarding but can be confronting — crowds, cremations, intensity. We prepare you, guide it respectfully, and pace it gently. Many travellers find it the most memorable place they visit; a few find it overwhelming, and we're honest about that up front.
Are the boat rides included?
Yes — both the signature sunrise ride and an evening ride for the aarti are included. They are the heart of the experience.
Can we enter Kashi Vishwanath easily?
You can visit, but security is strict and queues can be long, especially on festival days. We advise on special-darshan options and time your visit to avoid the worst crowds — but some waiting is honest reality.
Should we add Ayodhya or Prayagraj?
Both are doable as day trips or extensions — Ayodhya (~3.5 hrs) and Prayagraj/Allahabad (~2.5 hrs) with the Sangam. Tell us your interest and we'll extend the itinerary.
When is the best time to visit?
October–March for comfortable weather; Dev Deepawali (Nov) is spectacular but very crowded. Avoid peak summer heat and the monsoon river rise.
