Kodagu, universally called Coorg, is coffee country in the Western Ghats and the standard weekend escape from Bengaluru — which means Friday and Saturday nights are busy and expensive, and midweek is a different and much better place. The appeal is the landscape and the plantation stays rather than any list of sights: mist, coffee under shade trees, and a distinct Kodava culture with its own food and martial tradition. Two nights midweek beats three at the weekend. Abbey and Iruppu falls are best just after the monsoon; in April they are a trickle and the drive is not worth it.
