Udaipur runs at a different pace from the rest of Rajasthan and most itineraries are better for putting it last rather than first. The lakes make it, and they also make the timing matter — Pichola in the late afternoon is the city at its best, and a boat out to Jag Mandir at that hour is worth more than another palace interior. Two nights is enough to see it. Three is what people wish they had booked, particularly couples, because the pleasure of Udaipur is largely in not hurrying through it.
