Most travel stress is avoidable and starts before you leave home. Here is a straightforward checklist we give our own clients before an international trip — work through it a few weeks ahead and the trip itself gets a lot easier.
Documents
- Passport valid at least six months beyond your return, with blank pages.
- Visa (or confirmed e-Visa/authority) for your destination — confirm the current rule early.
- Printed and digital copies of tickets, hotel bookings and insurance.
- A photocopy (and a photo on your phone) of your passport, kept separately from the original.
Money
- Some local currency for arrival, plus a forex/travel card for the rest.
- Tell your bank you’re travelling so cards aren’t blocked.
- Keep a small emergency reserve separate from your main wallet.
Health & insurance
- Travel insurance suited to your destination and activities — many countries require it.
- Any prescription medicines in their original packaging, with a doctor’s note if needed.
- Check whether any vaccinations are recommended for your destination.
Packing & practicalities
- Check baggage limits before you pack — they vary by airline and fare.
- A universal adapter, chargers and a power bank.
- Weather-appropriate clothing and any modest wear needed for religious sites.
- Download offline maps and save your hotel address in the local language.
