Naini Lake boating
Experience · 1 hourRowed yachts. Early morning is calm and the light is best.
Lake hill station · Uttarakhand
A lake in a bowl of hills, and one of the most reliably busy hill stations in North India because it is a manageable drive from Delhi. That accessibility is also the drawback: in May, June and around Diwali it is genuinely crowded, and the Mall Road becomes a slow shuffle. Off-season it is lovely. The lake itself is the centre of everything — boating, the walk around it, and the ropeway up to Snow View for the Himalayan skyline on a clear morning. Two nights covers it, with Naini Peak or the Kilbury birding area for anyone wanting to walk rather than shop.
What to see
Rowed yachts. Early morning is calm and the light is best.
Nanda Devi on a clear morning. Queues get long by 10:00.
On the lake shore. One of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Walk or pony. The best views without the ropeway crowds.

Good to know
May and June, and the Diwali week. It is close enough to Delhi that the whole plain arrives at once. March, September and October are far more pleasant.
Yes, and it is the standard pairing — around two and a half hours apart. Two nights at each works well for a family week.
