Kochi travel guide & tour packages

Kochi is where almost every Kerala trip starts and it is worth a night rather than a transfer. Fort Kochi is the old colonial quarter — Portuguese, Dutch and British in sequence — and it is small, flat and genuinely walkable, which is rare. The Chinese fishing nets are the photograph everyone takes; the more interesting hour is Mattancherry, where the synagogue, the spice warehouses and Jew Town sit within a few streets of each other. A Kathakali performance in the evening is the other reason to stay rather than drive straight to the hills.

Kochi FAQs

Is Kochi worth a night, or should I drive straight to Munnar?

Worth a night. Fort Kochi is compact and evening is the best time to see it, which a same-day transfer does not allow.

How far is Munnar from Kochi?

About four hours by road, climbing steadily. Leave in the morning — the ghat section is unpleasant after dark.
