Delhi travel guide & tour packages

Delhi is where most India trips begin, and the usual mistake is treating it purely as an airport. It is really two cities: the Mughal one around the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, dense and best seen on foot or by rickshaw, and the colonial one of wide avenues and Lutyens bungalows that feels like a different country. One night works if you arrive rested; two is better because jet lag and Old Delhi do not combine well. December and January fog is worth planning around — morning flights and trains are delayed routinely, and a tight onward connection is a bad bet in those months.

What to see

Things to do in Delhi

Red Fort

UNESCO site · 2 hours

Closed Mondays. Go early before the Chandni Chowk crowds build.

Jama Masjid

Mosque · 1 hour

Closed to visitors at prayer times. Cover shoulders and knees.

Humayun's Tomb

UNESCO site · 1.5 hours

The blueprint for the Taj. Quieter than the Red Fort and arguably finer.

Qutub Minar

South Delhi, so combine it with the Lutyens drive rather than Old Delhi.

Experience · 2 hours

The best way into Old Delhi. Morning, before the heat and the traffic.

Delhi FAQs

How many nights do I need in Delhi?

One works if you land rested. Two is better for a first visit — Old Delhi and New Delhi are genuinely different days and combining them with jet lag is punishing.

Is Delhi fog really a problem in winter?

Yes. December and January mornings disrupt flights and trains regularly. We build margin into onward connections in those months rather than assuming schedules hold.
