Dharamshala & McLeod Ganj travel guide & tour packages

The seat of the Tibetan government in exile, and quite different in character from the rest of Himachal. McLeod Ganj above the main town is where visitors stay — monasteries, Tibetan food and a walk around the Dalai Lama temple complex. The Triund trek is the other draw and it is a genuine day hike rather than a stroll. Two nights is right unless you are trekking.

Dharamshala & McLeod Ganj FAQs

Is the Triund trek difficult?

It is moderate rather than hard, but it is a real climb of about 9 km round trip. Reasonable fitness and early start required.

Should I stay in Dharamshala or McLeod Ganj?

McLeod Ganj, almost always. It sits above the main town, it is where the monasteries and cafés are, and lower Dharamshala is an ordinary administrative town.
