A meadow at 2,650 metres that becomes India's main ski resort in winter. The gondola is the draw in either season and runs in two phases — the second, to Apharwat at nearly 4,000 metres, is the one worth queuing for and is frequently closed by weather. Most visitors come as a day trip from Srinagar, which works, though a night here means reaching the gondola before the day-trip crowd arrives.

Day trip from Srinagar or stay overnight?
A day trip works for most people. Staying means you reach the gondola before the crowd, which in peak season is a real advantage.
Is the gondola always running?
Phase one usually. Phase two to Apharwat is weather-dependent and closes often, sometimes at short notice. Nobody can guarantee it, and we will say so rather than take the booking quietly.
