Baga & Calangute

Beach · Goa
North Goa is the busy half — Baga, Calangute and Anjuna — and it is where the nightlife, the markets and most of the budget accommodation sit. It suits groups and first-time visitors who want things happening; it does not suit anyone whose idea of a beach holiday is quiet. The Portuguese churches at Old Goa and the Saturday night market at Arpora are the two things worth leaving the sand for. Three to four nights covers it without the days blurring into each other.
What to see
The busiest beaches in Goa. Water sports, shacks, crowds.
Basilica of Bom Jesus and Sé Cathedral. Cover shoulders and knees.
Wednesdays in season. Arpora night market on Saturdays is the better one.
Portuguese fort and lighthouse. Sunset over the Arabian Sea.
Durations
North Goa works well as a 2–5 night stay. Tell us your dates and party and we'll price a tailored itinerary.
Multi-city
Three nights either side of the state. The two halves of Goa are different holidays, and this is how to have both.
Good to know
North for nightlife, markets and activity; South for quiet, wider beaches and better resorts. Many people split the trip and take three nights in each.
For some people, genuinely yes — green, empty and a fraction of the price. But most shacks close and swimming is unsafe, so it is a different holiday, not a cheaper version of the same one.
