Magnolia Sunset Point
Viewpoint · 1.5 hoursThe reason to come. Arrive well before dusk; it gets cold quickly.
Hill station · Jharkhand
Netarhat sits at around 1,100 metres on the Chota Nagpur plateau and is known as the Queen of Chotanagpur, which tells you it was a colonial hill station and that very little has happened to it since. That is the appeal: pine and sal forest, almost no development, and sunrise and sunset points that are genuinely spectacular and almost always empty. Magnolia Point at sunset is the one people come for, and the story attached to it is worth asking a local about. There is little to do beyond walking and looking, which is the correct amount for a place like this. Accommodation is basic — the government-run options are the reliable ones.
What to see
The reason to come. Arrive well before dusk; it gets cold quickly.
Over the plateau and the mist below. A short drive from the town.
Best in and just after the monsoon. Steps down to the base.
Over the Koel river valley. Quiet even by Netarhat standards.
Durations
Netarhat works well as a 1–2 night stay. Tell us your dates and party and we'll price a tailored itinerary.
Good to know
Deliberately not. It is viewpoints, forest walks and quiet — the appeal is that nothing has been built. If you want activities, this is the wrong hill station.
Limited and basic. The government tourist lodge and a handful of private guesthouses. Book ahead in winter and do not expect resort standards.
