Charminar & Laad Bazaar
Landmark · 2–3 hoursGo early. The bazaar around it is the reason to linger.
Metropolis · Telangana
Hyderabad carries its history more lightly than Delhi and is a great deal easier to move around. The Charminar and the Laad Bazaar around it are the old city — bangles, pearls and the best biryani in India, which is a claim the city will defend at length and largely wins. Golconda Fort is the other set piece: a ruined hill fortress with acoustics engineered so a clap at the entrance is audible at the summit, still demonstrated daily. The Qutb Shahi tombs beside it are underrated and usually empty. Two nights covers the old city, Golconda and one museum; the airport is a long way out, so allow for it.
What to see
Go early. The bazaar around it is the reason to linger.
Steep climb to the summit. The acoustic demonstration at the gate is genuine.
Beside Golconda, recently restored, and almost always quiet.
The Nizams' seat. Closed Fridays.
Dum-cooked, sealed with dough. Lunch is when the good places serve it.

Good to know
Two. The old city is a day, Golconda and the tombs are half a day, and the airport is 32 km out which eats more time than people expect.
Yes — it is calmer than Delhi or Mumbai, the sights are spread but manageable, and Ramoji Film City is a full day out if you have children.
