South Goa is the quiet half and the reason people who dislike Goa often change their minds. The beaches at Palolem, Agonda and Colva are wider, emptier and cleaner than anything in the north, and the resorts are noticeably better at the upper end. There is less to do, which is the point. It suits couples, families with small children and anyone who wants to read a book without a jet ski going past. Three to four nights, and consider splitting a longer trip between the two halves.

Generally the opposite — calmer water and fewer crowds suit families with young children better than the north.
How far is South Goa from the airports?
Dabolim is about 25 km; the new Mopa airport in the north is considerably further, around 70 km. Check which airport your flight uses before booking a transfer.
