October to April is the window. The living root bridges are the reason to come: figs trained across streams by Khasi villagers over decades until the roots form a bridge strong enough to walk on, and still growing. The double-decker bridge at Nongriat involves around 3,500 steps down and the same back up, and it is a genuinely hard day that people routinely underestimate. The single-root bridges near Mawlynnong are far more accessible if that is beyond you.
